The Warehouse
Woody Lovejoy opened the iconic Oxford establishment, the Warehouse in the Country Village Mall near the square sometime in the 1970s. And in doing so, became the anchor tenant in Oxford's first true gathering place. Many students in the 70s and 80s will remember the Warehouse for special occasions, dinners with friends and family and much more. It was situated right above another somewhat more notorious Ole Miss hangout, J.W. Forrester's. Two students and Warehouse employees bought the Warehouse from Lovejoy in the early 80s, and it remained a hugely popular center of Oxford life back in the day. Until one night in February 1986, when a fire broke out int he old wooden building shot flames 100 feet into the sky (visible by residents from miles away)...a painful ending to a beloved spot that many still mourn today.
