Back in the 70s and 80s heyday, Aspen’s reputation was as much based on its party possibilities as on its ski slopes. At the time, there were two raucous spots right at the base of Aspen Mountain – The Tippler (a.k.a. “The Crippler”) and Little Nell’s
bar (way before, and no relation to today’s luxury hotel). Skiers would chow down, lounge around and drink away the daylight hours at Nell’s apres-ski. But after dark, it was a nightclub bands would jam late into the night. It was dark inside, and lots of couples held hands once inside for fear of losing one another. The atmosphere was chill, though, and the drinks were affordable. Yep, it was a different Aspen back then!
